The Laundry (Το Πλυντήριο)

Sofia and Konstantina - Vox Nova at work

In 2023, Sofia Linospori got together with Konstantina Mavropoulou, whom she had collaborated with some years ago as a director and co-actress in the theater and they created Vox Nova, a theatrical productions group.

They were keen to stage a production of  "The Laundry", a play written by Thanasis Triaridis, one of Greece's most prolific contemporary playwrights.

Sofia meets Thanasis Triaridis for the first time at a Translators union get together. He promptly introduces her as "his actress"!

"The Laundry" is a dystopic play set in a not so distant future, where the "powers that be" who run the world have decided that the world population is too big and there needs to ve a "cull". So it is decided that girls up to the age of  14 shall be executed. The executioners are to be their fellow male pupils but not just any pupils. Only the best in the class.

Sofia and Konstantina studied hard, codirected, co-starred and put together an amazing production which showcased not only their acting abilities but also their deep love for the theater and everything that goes into it.

The play premiered in 2023 for a small festival but then was quickly reworked as far as the set and costumes were concerned, creating a production that left audiences literally stunned.

Antonis Xondrogiannis lit up the stage in his expert way and young Manthos Damigos created an original score and soundscape utilising voices and recordings. Peter Papageorgiou created parts of the stage and also acted as the voice of the government, while George Rarris helped to create the actual laundry set too.

The play ran for a second year at the end of 2024 and was taken on tour to Igoumenitsa, Ioannina, Patras and Athens. Going on tour was very exciting. And quite challenging as the small theaters available each had very different conditions as regards lighting and sound capabilities. Still with the help of Peter, their "roadie" and the various talented people around all went well. Finally back in Corfu, one final "special" show was put on, to which the playwright Mr Triaridis came together with a tour bus full of theater lovers and friends of his from Athens. The show closed with a chat between the actresses, the writer and the audience

Sofia really stunned everyone with her performance in this play. Throught its three acts , she evolves and changes becoming almost unrecognisable by the end something which she achieves purely on acting and without make up or elaborate costume changes.

Countless people came up to both girls after each show to congratulate them on their performance.

as someone who was involved in the production you could say I am biased. Yet I saw all 27-28 of the performances. And each time I was moved.
